224. $ Oddfellow and Rebekah Bursaries
March 15 - is the application deadline for the Odd Fellow and Rebekah Bursary program.
Six bursaries in the amount of $1000 each will be awarded for students who are planning to attend post-secondary school. Students applying do not have to have a connection with the Odd Fellows or Rebekahs but must show definite promise and a need for financial assistance. The bursary is to be used in the year awarded.
Ask Mrs. McBain or Mrs. Christiansen for an application form.

222. $Garfield Weston Awards
The Garfield Weston Entrance Awards Deadline: March 28
The Garfield Weston Foundation will distribute up to 25 entrance scholarships to students entering their first year of college studies in Canada for the 2012-2013 academic year. Each award comprises a tuition waiver renewable for up to 3 additional years, an $8000 stipend, renewable for up to 3 additional years and access to summer program funding of up to $3500 as well as mentorship.
Entrance W. Garfield Weston Awards recognize and support the outstanding college-bound student who is:
- passionate about his or her field of study;
- curious, courageous, and willing to try new things; and
- community-minded and truly committed to being involved and making a difference in society.
In order to be eligible for an Entrance W. Garfield Weston Award, a student must:
- be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident;
- be entering his or her first year of full time college studies in the fall of 2012 in a program recognized as eligible by the college and the W. Garfield Weston Awards; Diploma and Applied Degrees only (University degrees are not elibible) SIAST students are eligible....plus many more! 221. $ Schulich Leader Scholarships for Science, Tech, Engineering & Math

These new scholarships are for students enrolled in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics areas of study at participating Canadian universities in the fall of 2012.
This program asks every high school to select one student to represent their school as a Schulich Leader Nominee. From this pool, 20 universities across Canada will select one outstanding student to be their Schulich Leader, each of whom will receive a four-year scholarship valued at $60 000 to support their studies. To speak with an advisor, you can make an appointment or simply drop by the Edwards Undergraduate Office, Room 185. To get there from outside the building, enter the doors of the PotashCorp Centre, located near the ESB Loop on Campus Drive, and go up the stairs. Turn left into the Office Wing, and then left again. The Undergraduate Programs Office is located at the end of the hallway.

Academic Advising - Engineering
Academic advising is a collaborative process of developing an educational plan that fits the individual student’s abilities, interests, personal circumstances and career goals.
Academic advising goals are to:
- Assist students to better understand themselves and direct them to available resources that will help them meet their academic and career goals.
- Help students understand University and College policies and procedures, academic requirements and consequences.
- Ensure that degree requirements are satisfied systematically.
The student-advisor relationship is one of partnership and shared responsibility. You are expected to actively seek advising, participate in your own decision making and take responsibility for satisfactory progress toward your educational goals.
