March 15 - is the application deadline for the Odd Fellow and Rebekah Bursary program.
Six bursaries in the amount of $1000 each will be awarded for students who are planning to attend post-secondary school. Students applying do not have to have a connection with the Odd Fellows or Rebekahs but must show definite promise and a need for financial assistance. The bursary is to be used in the year awarded.

The Garfield Weston Entrance Awards Deadline: March 28

The Garfield Weston Foundation will distribute up to 25 entrance scholarships to students entering their first year of college studies in Canada for the 2012-2013 academic year. Each award comprises a tuition waiver renewable for up to 3 additional years, an $8000 stipend, renewable for up to 3 additional years and access to summer program funding of up to $3500 as well as mentorship.

Entrance W. Garfield Weston Awards recognize and support the outstanding college-bound student who is:

passionate about his or her field of study;
curious, courageous, and willing to try new things; and
community-minded and truly committed to being involved and making a difference in society.

In order to be eligible for an Entrance W. Garfield Weston Award, a student must:

be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident;
be entering his or her first year of full time college studies in the fall of 2012 in a program recognized as eligible by the college and the W. These new scholarships are for students enrolled in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics areas of study at participating Canadian universities in the fall of 2012.

This program asks every high school to select one student to represent their school as a Schulich Leader Nominee. From this pool, 20 universities across Canada will select one outstanding student to be their Schulich Leader, each of whom will receive a four-year scholarship valued at $60 000 to support their studies. Students in the Edwards School of Business receive one-on-one guidance on a wide range of academic, administrative, and social concerns, as well as referrals to other college advisors and university services.
To speak with an advisor, you can make an appointment or simply drop by the Edwards Undergraduate Office, Room 185. To get there from outside the building, enter the doors of the PotashCorp Centre, located near the ESB Loop on Campus Drive, and go up the stairs. Turn left into the Office Wing, and then left again. If you are planning to attend SIAST next year, you should begin the application process A.S.A.P .......especially if you are applying to a first qualified/ first admitted program.

See Mrs. Christiansen for application forms and transcripts.

Prospective SIAST students should be aware of the different application processes that exist for SIAST programs and the resulting deadlines. The procedure for applying is different between these 3 program groups:

1. First-Qualified, First Admitted - This procedure applies to most SIAST programs. You can submit anapplication at any time, and it is considered for the upcoming start date for the program. The earlier you provide the qualifications for admission to the next start date, the earlier you might begin your studies. More information about these programs can be found here.

2. Competetive Entry - The only program in this category is the Saskatchewan Collaborative Bachelor of Science in Nursing program, delivered in partnership with the University of Regina. The current application deadline is February 15, 2012 and applications are ranked according to specific program requirements. Check this link for details.

3. High Demand Programs - This procedure is for a small group of programs including Combined Laboratory and X-Ray Technology, Dental Hygiene, Medical Laboratory Technology, Medical Radiologic Technology, Power Engineering Technology and Practical Nursing. These programs have a specific application deadline (usually the end of February) and a more detailed application process which may include a Career Investigation. You should go to the specific program page (start here and choose your program) for information specific to your program of interest.

By February 15, 2012:a) Apply for admission online: Submit the online Application for Admission and pay the $90 application fee.
b) Self report your marks online: Include Grade 11 and 12 final marks, midterm marks and subjects in which you are registered for subsequent semesters.
c) Apply for Competitive Entrance Awards online: Submit the online Application for Competitive Entrance Awards, read your confirmation e-mail and plan your next steps!

d) By March 15, 2012 Mail a transcript of your Grade 12 Semester One final marks (This transcript should include your semester one final marks...mid term marks for non-semestered subjects.... and a list of subjects in which you are currently registered. AND
Submit your supporting documentation for awards Make sure any lists of activities, reference letters, essays, etc. are submitted according to the online directions.

205. Why Form # 9 is so important to Grade 12's

When you are applying to attend a University, College, or Technical Institute you will usually send a preliminary "unofficial/preliminary" transcript that you can get from the Mrs. Christiansen in the Student Services Office when you make your initial application.

Once you complete grade 12, the school you are applying to will want your "Official Transcript" to be sent to them directly from the Ministry of Education in Regina.

How do you arrange for this "Official Transcript" to be sent?Pick up a Form #9 in the Student Services Office. You have to fill this in, enclose a $15.00 payment, and mail it to the Ministry of Education in Regina

When should you mail your Form #9? Mail your form #9 as soon as you have received your conditional acceptance from the school that you are applying to. It is a good idea to do this as soon as possible, so that you don't forget to do it in May or June when you are busy with preparations for final exams and graduation.

What happens if you don't mail off a form #9? Your conditional acceptance to the school of your choice could be revoked.

203. Summer Exchange to France - OSEF

SPEND 4 WEEKS IN FRANCE

13 to 17 year old Students, live the French life and improve your language and cultural skills!

OSEF France-Canada Inc. offers a four week reciprocal exchange program for individual students. Discover France and improve your French language skills!

You will travel to your host family at the end of June and return at the end of July with your partner. You will host your exchange student in August. Host families are selected very carefully and we review all the documents we require.

The goal of this program is to enhance language proficiency, promote personal growth and development, increase awareness of another culture and foster a global perspective.

The cost of the program is $3800.

The cost covers the selection of your partner, preparation meetings in your home region and the host country, international air travel with escort(s), a two day visit of Paris (Eiffel Tower, Montmartre, Notre-Dame de Paris, Champs Elysées avenue and a boat trip on the Seine), a two day stop-over in Toronto when you return with a visit to Niagara Falls, and hotels in Paris and Toronto during the visits. The cost also covers continuous support from the O.S.E.F. France - Canada team during your entire program both in France and in Canada when you return with your partner.

The OSEF France-Canada student exchange program is a reciprocal exchange program.

The Loran Award is open to every graduating high school or cegep student from coast-to-coast-to-coast. Renewable for up to four years, it includes an annual tuition waiver and a stipend of $8,000, access to funding and internships through our summer program, invitations to annual gatherings and forums, and mentorship opportunities. The award is tenable at any of our partner universities. (In Saskatchewan this award applies only to students applying to the Universtiy of Saskatchewan)

Eligibility Criteria: Be in the graduating year of uninterrupted full-time studies in high school or CEGEP. Exceptions may be considered for those who have undertaken a gap year for academic pursuits or community service-based activities. Present a minimum cumulative average of 85% Hold Canadian citizenship or permanent resident status

Selection Criteria: Character, service and leadership are the selection criteria for Loran Awards. Loran scholars are people of strong moral character who have demonstrated academic excellence and potential as leaders. They are curious by nature, interested in a wide range of subjects and willing to take meaningful risks. They prioritize results over appearances and value integrity and honesty. Though they study diverse subjects, and go on to work in a variety of fields, they share a common commitment to their university and larger communities. Click here for application information.

Education Scholarships Each year the Saskatchewan School Boards Association awards two $2,500.00 scholarships to graduating high school students who remain in Saskatchewan in post-secondary study: University Scholarship: $2500 for a student entering university in Saskatchewan. Local Scholarship packages were handed out to interested grade 12 students on March 10th. Those students who were absent can pick this up at the Student Services Office.
A number of these scholarships can be handed into the student services office on the last day of April.....This year that falls during the Easter Break....so the adjusted due date is Monday, May 2nd. We will then send these scholarship packages off to the local donor scholarships committees for you.

What is The Miller Thomson Foundation National Scholarship?

Toyota Earth Day Scholarship Program

The Toyota Earth Day Scholarship Program offers twenty $5 000 scholarships to graduating high school and CEGEP students across Canada who have distinguished themselves through environmental community service, extracurricular and volunteer activities, and academic excellence. If you are currently in Grade 12, and you are planning to take agriculture-related post-secondary education beginning in the fall of 2011, then you qualify for this $1000 scholarship.

Here's what you need to do:

•Submit a three-minute video essay

•The future of agriculture in Saskatchewan over the next 10-15 years.

161. Why Form # 9 is so important to Grade 12's

When you are applying to attend a University, College, or Technical Institute you will usually send a preliminary "unofficial/preliminary" transcript that you can get from the Mrs. Christiansen in the Student Services Office when you make your initial application.

Once you complete grade 12, the school you are applying to will want your "Official Transcript" to be sent to them directly from the Ministry of Education in Regina.

How do you arrange for this "Official Transcript" to be sent?
Pick up a Form #9 in the Student Services Office. You have to fill this in, enclose a $15.00 payment, and mail it to the Ministry of Education in Regina

When should you mail your Form #9? Mail your form #9 as soon as you have received your conditional acceptance from the school that you are applying to. It is a good idea to do this as soon as possible, so that you don't forget to do it in May or June when you are busy with preparations for final exams and graduation.

What happens if you don't mail off a form #9? Your conditional acceptance to the school of your choice could be revoked.
